TTZ – Travis Tues Night 4/27/10

16 teams fished, 4 teams weighed in and 3 places were paid.

We had a solid turnout for this week’s Tues Nighter; and with Bass Champs Central making their fourth stop on Lake Travis, several anglers were already on the lake scouting out their water with hopes of taking home $20,000 on May 8.

The fishing continues to be sporadic and it didn’t take much weight to cut a check in the last few tournaments held on Travis. Most teams are reporting good numbers of smaller fish with one or two small keepers mixed in. Tuesday night proved no different as Daniel Gibson fished solo and took third place with three fish weighing an even four pounds. Daniel was on the fence about weighing his fish; after seeing several teams come to the scales empty handed, he humbly brought up his fish and happily collected the $100 third place payout. Daniel reported catching all his the keepers on Zoom Flukes.

Finding one or two solid fish to anchor your limit has always been key to finishing in the money on Travis. But when limits are hard to come by one or two solid fish is sometimes all it takes. Chris Conner and Wes Hayden came in second with two solid fish for nearly eight pounds. Chris mentioned he’s been having trouble finding the right bites and was glad to have caught the two they had; their fish came were caught a little deeper, in 15′ of water, on a jig and Senko.

Deeper water also paid off for our winners as Jason Jones and Jeremy Crews were fishing jigs and spoons in 30 feet of water. Their three fish bag was anchored by a very nice 7.02 pounder that was caught on a ledge under a dock.

Jason’s fish is the largest fish we’ve weighed this season but it was not enough to take down the River City Grille Big Bass Rollover. The pot grows to $320 next week and will continue to grow until a fish weighing eight pounds or better is brought to the scales.

Thanks to everyone that came out and congrats to all the winners! Due to the Bass Champs off limits rule there will not be a tournament next week; the next Tues Nighter will be May 11. Good luck to all those fishing Champs!
