Don Gordon

Raised in South Texas, Don fished with his dad often in the warm and bountiful waters of the area. They would fish off the jetty on South Padre Island during the day and at night fish all of the local night piers until the early morning hours. Their catch ran the gamut from the giant black drum (as tall as Don) to twenty-foot strings of red fish and sea trout. When he was at home in Harlingen his passion for fishing led him to spend many hours riding the canals on his bike, fishing before and after school wherever the prospects looked promising.

Don moved to the Austin area in 1969, and has worked in the construction business here for 42 years. After working seventy-hour weeks in the 80s and early 90s when his kids were young, Don decided to take some time for himself and go fishing! He began fishing fresh water extensively when he realized he could not make it down to the coast often enough to satisfy his fishing hunger.

He started fishing competitively in the 1990’s. In addition to working the tournament circuits, he also wrote about fishing for Country Line Magazine as the staff fishing report writer. He is also the owner of Capitol View Guide Service, which offers day trips on Town Lake aka Lady Bird Lake. Don has spoken at various events, including Woods and Waters banquets, church groups and youth seminars. He has also participated in demonstrations at boat shows, Bass Pro Shops and Academy stores. The Bassmaster Classic and the FLW Event at Travis are two of the high points of his networking adventures. DG now participates in the studio and on call in fishing information interviews on AM 1300 The Zone radio show.
