I type this admission as the sound of vuvuzelas (a stadium horn which is blown at football, I'm sorry soccer, games in South Africa) pounds in my head.  Yes, I have been watching soccer all weekend, and as much as it pains me to say it, I am starting to give a rat's ass about it.

I know, I know.  As Andy says in the tone of Lil' Jon……WWWWHHHHHHAAAAAAAATTTT!!!

You see, my satellite dish is giving me problems.  Friday, it started to only pick up a few channels, and I was forced to watch that or nothing for the most part.  But it's been cool actually.  You gotta understand something first…I'm a redneck from east Texas, and soccer and its fans have always seemed completely ridiculous to me.  I mean, a sport where it is cool to rip your shirt off, and slide on the grass into the grasp of your shirtless teammates?  Queue it up Ando…..WWWWHHHHHHAAAAAATTTT!!!

But on a serious note, as I started to suffer through and the sound of the vuvuzelas became less annoying, I started to kinda get it.  This sport has passionate fans…forget that, NATIONS behind it.  I mean, they literally place a lot of their national worth and alcohol ingestion on this game and its outcome.  And forget about it, I can tell you these guys are truly incredible athletes.  They really are.

Then there's the spectacle of it all.  Staged in South Africa, it is really a worldwide deal that kinda makes the Olympics seem a little dry.

To show you how bad I have gotten in the last 48 hours, I understand (kinda) the historical significance of New Zealand TYING Italia (that's Italy for us rednecks).

I really need to go fishing.  Wait, I can't…more World Cup soccer and the US Open (I'll save this for another entry) coverage this afternoon!

Soccer will always have a place in my heart since my dad coached me and my brother's teams from when we were 8 years old until we stopped playing in high school.

I'm not a big fan of MLS but the World Cup is something special…like you said Booker it's a freakin' huge party.  The 2014 World Cup is expected to be in Brazil and you can bet I'll be there partying my ass off!

YEEEAAAHHHHHH!!!

I'll clear my calendar for Brazil.  Been wanting to go there anyways.

Why is "Thong Song" playing in my head all the sudden…

Fag!  *REAL* football fans know the season doesn't get started until September :)  Until then, go mow your yard, go fish, whatever.   There is nothing worth watching on TV right now :))

Just finished watching the US/Algeria game and what an ending; the US scores with three minutes left, wins their group and advances to the round of 16!

As much as I love to fish, in my opinion soccer is way more exciting to watch than fishing on tv.

Knew you guys we're alright…look, folks either hate it or love it, then some learn to love it.  I played soccer in junior HS but never picked it up in HS as baseball was my real passion.  So when we had our first child, my proud baby boy, I just knew that he was going to be a baseball player just like his father.  We'll…that lasted all of about 3 years!!!

Both my son and daughter are hard core soccer kids and been since they were 7 years old. They both play on high level select team for LoneStar so we have turned into a full blown soccer family.  This ol' disappointed dad has grown to love the sport so much that I actually went to ref school to help ref games when the kids are at their tournaments. That lasted two games till I blew my ACL out so now I'm stuck stand on the sideline acting a fool like the rest of the fathers with my wife just as loud. We absolutely love the sport and have been glued to the TV non-stop since the World Cup Started. I had a big fight with Direc TV last week because they shut off ESPN Classics channel; which is where the games from the day were re-aired and them %^&*#@!*& turned it off…just so happened that they said my "Free" 3 month grace period ended on the 16th!!! WHAT….I've had that sorry ass ESPN Classic since 2006 and hadn't watched it once up till last week when the World Cup started!!  Then my wife asked me why don't I just record them on the DVR??? Can you say dumb ass!!!!!

That US game today just gave ya chill bump when they scored that goal…our household wasn't the same for over an hour.  I hope they end up drawing England in the next round and whoop that ARSSSSS…don't knock it till you watch it!!!!!

Man, after reading this while on vacation I decided to TRY to watch a couple of the games.  Brutal, just plain F'n BRUTAL.  I think I would enjoy watching a game of curling or one of my wife's Oprah episodes she has recorded more than investing 4 hours of my life on that C rap again.  Still got that buzzing in my ears.
