Dale's boss killed this snake outside Taylor last week…may be hard to tell from the pic but any idea what kind of snake this is?

Color and girth look like a moccasin to me.

If that snake was 5 miles from where it is in that pic it would have met the same fate.  I've never seen one around my place but obviously they are around.

That is an Eastern Hognose snake , also refered to as a puff adder .  They are nonvenomus and beneficial ,  eating mainly frogs and toads .  DG

In my opinion a good snake is a dead snake. Creepy little bastards.  On a side note i heard that Andy caught the infamous " One Eyed Monster Snake" this weekend. From what I hear he is quite the snake wrangler..

Easy Waylon!!  HA HA!!    Snake's creep me out, for real!!  I stuck my hand in a minnow bucket staked out with perch, cat fishing one evening and grabbed a snake instead of a perch in there.  WOW!! bout threw my arm outta socket.  Randy Johnson's jaw would've dropped had he seen that motion in action! Needless to say, I didn't catch any cats and the wife was happy I was mowing the yard..

Fished LA this past Friday.  After I retied my bait, which I was not looking around for a couple minutes, I had a 4-5 ft moccasin come to about 2ft of my boat wanting to climb in.  I swatted my rod in the water at it and it didn’t budge.  I put my trolling motor on high to move away from it.  Reminded me of my Atchafalaya basin days of fishing and crawfishing!

I've had several try to get in the boat with me, it seems when they have the "want to" to get in your boat there is much you can do about it.  I bet it looks funny as hell to other guys fishing around you to see you beating the crap out of the water.

Back in the late 80's I was fishing a club tourney on Lake Marble Falls and we were fishing a bank with some trees hanging out over the water.as we went under them a snake droped out of the tree right in the boat between us.my partner started screeming Quote-GET THAT F-ING SNAKE OUT OF THIS BOAT OR I AM GOING TO DROWN TRYING TO WALK ON WATER.I took my rod tip and was able to swing out.I do beleive he threw his shorts away when we got home.

You guys truly are a bunch of… lmao Garly…scared of a little ole snake. Most snakes you see in the water are about 99.9% water snakes. A moccasin is rarely seen just swimming around. All the snakes I've seen on Travis and Austin have been water snakes. I've even caught one in 10 feet of water on a worm once. In fact, all the way out on Choke Canyon I've seen 1,000's of snakes. All water snakes except 3. Those 3 floated completely on the surface as any snake that's not a water snake does and only 1 was poisonous as it was a western diamondback rattlesnake. They're fun to play with. The other 2 were indigo snakes, very pretty and very docile. But then again, I'm only a herp myself having been given the nickname Snakeman when I was a reptile dealer back in the 80's… lol

By the way, the subject was the hognose snake. If anyone runs across one again, please call me. I'd love to have one. They are very unique snakes. ;-)

People say that snakes are as afraid of you as you are of them.  Well I have never seen a snake sh__ his pants when he saw me……….  I have seen a few people do that though!
