OfflineI wanted to share my experience so others don't go through the same thing with this place…
I called Sandy Creek Boat Repair in Jonestown on Monday, 4/25/11, to see how much it would cost to have my boat re-carpeted. I had already removed all of the old carpet and purchased some to replace it but still needed more. I spoke with the owner of the company when I called and was told that it should be only about 5 hours of labor at $70 an hour, and they would order the additional carpet and I would have it done and back to me within 48 hours for no MORE than $500 total. I made arrangements to drop off the boat Wednesday morning (4/27) before I went to work and was told it should be ready by Friday at the latest. I called several times and was told that the guy that usually does that was "not there the rest of the week so it would not be STARTED until Monday 05/02…" I was slightly irritated by the sudden change in information, but I wasn’t planning to use the boat over the weekend, so no real harm done, or so I thought.
It rained most of Monday, so I didn’t think much would be done. I called Wednesday morning to check the status, and was told that it was a lot more work than they had thought to the tune of 9 hours labor so far, at the now quoted fee of $90 an hour—and they still were not done. This was the 8th day that they had the boat, and they STILL were not done. They had carpeted the bins , but not the bottom of the boat. First of all, this was NOT what I agreed to. Second, it has taken a ridiculous amount of time. NOW, they are trying to charge me more money for THEIR mistake, in planning and bidding. I picked up the boat and will do the rest myself and told them that I will pay no more than the agreed amount. When I picked it up, they initially told me that I must have a hearing problem and they never said anything of the sort, but they quickly back tracked and said they would take the $500. I called him out on it saying that there is no way they would take less if they didn’t know they were in the wrong. Then, they would not take my check or my credit card, but demanded cash, so I had to spend an additional $6.75 in ATM fees to get out the cash. The quality of the work they DID complete was decent enough, but it was not even close to being worth the wait, effort and struggle for me.
I just wanted to forewarn anyone that might need something done on a bass boat– I would recommend you find somewhere else to go—anywhere but Sandy Creek Boat Repair. My impression is that the people at Sandy Creek Boat repair are less than honest in their dealings, and that you would be far better off going to another company to have your work done. At the very least, research all available options that can do whatever needs to be done for your boat.
