Here it goes….

Took all my stuff out of the boat this week in preparation for the trip to the repair shop. For those interested, there is a guy here in Belton; right up the street from TLP, that does all of Ricks and Cliffs fiberglass and gel coat work (Anything Fiberglass – James Taylor).  Seems like a really good guy and he is getting right on-top of my boat to get me back on the water ASAP.  I'll let everyone know how his work turns out.  He seems very interested in taking good care of bass fisherman boats.

Anyway…figured I would try and get out with my buddy this weekend in his boat but after waiting all morning for him to call, I couldn't take it anymore.  I re-loaded all my stuff back into my boat and headed to the lake.  The ride to the lake ended up being the highlight of the trip.

Put in at TLP; tons of trailers in the parking lot. Talked with a couple of guys at the ramp and they were calling it a day….they had nothing nice to say about the lake and I'll leave it at that. Water still off-colored and looks to be 5-6 foot low. Water temp 47-49 degree everywhere I went. Started off throwing c-rig and jigs on channel breaks going into the back of MPR without any luck. Ran around for the next hour graphing points looking for fish without any luck.  Headed to bull creek and graphed some more creek channels hoping to find some fish schooled up but no luck there either.  Did some t-rig fishing, wacky rig, and more c-rig fishing at various depths without any luck.  Decided to change plans and head up the cow house to look at some water and water 2 hours up there as well. Ended the day running around the main lake trying to buy a crank bait bite without any luck.

Ended the day with 0 fish and 0 bites.  Sure was a beautiful day to be on the water….. gotta love Lake Belton!!!!!

I saw on ABF that one bass club had 10 boats and none of them weighed in a single keeper, another bass club of similiar size had their weigh in at the same time and one boat had 2 keepers and one boat had 1 keeper, the rest zeroed.

I think I'd rather go to the dentist

Belton is a tough lake but don't give up because things can change real quick if you start catching fish.

It's stupid how tough that lake has been fishing.  I understand lakes tend to cycle but this is getting ridiculous.

The first time I fished Belton was in 2008, cut a small check with close to 14 lbs of nearly all smallies!  Out of 68 boats there were 60 limits weighed.  Any ideas as to why the drastic change within the last year or so?

I think some of it has to do with the amount of pressure it's gotten over the last 2-3 years.  Every weekend there is a tournament of some sort plus all the pre-fishing time. I also think lots of the off shore structure has been picked apart with the development of these high-tech graphs.

Like every lake, Belton can be good when it's on but that's not a very commen occurance anymore.  I'm sure I'll be back out there this weekend back at it as Duke suggested. Maybe the next report will be better!!
