Hit the lake today as it was a great day, but fishing sucked.  I got my only bite on the very first cast with a c-rig out into deeper water around City Park.  Mainly focused on deeper, short grass which was not the ticket.   When I moved in i saw several bass and some good ones too.  The water is clearer than I can ever remember seeing can see bottom in 17'.   The carp look like submarines as they are bunched up and everywhere.  Water temp was mid 50s all over the lake.   Might have to see about finding some whites according to some reports.

I can't and won't bring myself to use 6lb test on a lake with grass, I have had my heart broken too many times like that!

Go to the Dark Side James release your inner feelings .  The difference is getting bit sometimes or casting practice .  We all get our heart broken ,  but you are a bigger man to admit it , literally .  DG

I was out there yesterday from 10 to 3.   Had 5 bites.   Caught 3.   All on drop shot.   Using one of Eddie Pelfry's old sluggos, in the sculpin color (pumkin chartruse).   All in 20 to 25 FOW, in the City Park area.  Largest was 5lbs.   I was using 12lb braid, with a long fluor leader.

As JR said the water at CP is ultra clear.   The water at the Hula Hut is off color and about 2 feet vis.

Yup, hate to say it, but I'm going to have to put in my vote for the 6lb test out there right now.  You will get your heart broken every once in a while with it, but how are you supposed to get a fish in the boat if it doesn't even bite your bait?  You stand a better chance of getting them in the boat right now with the 6lb test than you do if you're not even getting bit with heavier line.  Just make sure you check your knot strength after every fish catch and every time you get hung up.  I usually end up re-tying after every 2-4 fish.

Made a quick 2.5hr trip on LA yesterday evening before it got dark and caught about 25 on a drop-shot rig with 6lb fluoro.  Fishing right next to some deep grass in front of a bluff too.  Nothing huge, only had a limit for 10-9, and a big fish of 3-9, but it was a fun 2.5hrs.  They were all in about 15ft of water in a space about 10sq ft, and I'm sure if I had actually gotten the boat over the top of them I probably could've seen them down there it was so clear.  I kept the boat way off them though and made long casts.  Several of them, including the 3-9, buried down in the grass, but just keeping slow steady pressure on 'em pulled them up and out of it eventually.  The boat sat in about 18ft of water, and I could see them bury themselves in the grass straight below the boat.  That water gets crazy clear out there this time of the year.

Ander ,  What type of line are you using ?  I prefer Gamma Edge for most applications ,  but recently I purchased some Gamma Touch ,  and have found it has less memory .  It is also cheaper ,  big plus with Gamma .  When not fishing tournaments I have been pleased with Seguar red label .  To me the small line diameter is especially important during this time of year .  Water clarity is at its peak ,  and with increased fishing pressure you get bit more often .  I have alot of faith in these products and have caught alot of big fish on them .  DG
