OfflineI fished the TTZ opening tournament on Lake Travis last Saturday and it was quite a learning experience. In practice I had been catching 12-14 lbs consistently on jigs with Pro's Choice E'gr B'vr trailers. On tournament day that changed drastically. We struggled all morning just to get bit and at 2PM we only had 2 small keepers. I started thinking about what had changed and why the bite was off. Sure it was cold and a little breezy, but that was the case during practice days as well. Then it hit me. The water color had changed since practice. The usual light stain around tournament point was non-existent for some reason. I convinced Shawn we needed to abandon our spots and move up river. We kept going up until I found a slight stain to the water and we stopped at random rocks/docks and immediately started catching fish. We ended up with 13.30 lbs and managed to catch a decent check.
As usual the TTZ weigh-in was great! The My Chihuahua Bites salsa, and all the sausage wraps really hit the spot after a long day on the water. I'm looking forward to the next one! It was also really cool to see all camaraderie and support in towing the rigs out of the water at the end of the day.
