A A AFished the Sunday jackpot with Dale from 6 am-11 am and had a limit (four blacks and a barely 12" spotty) for 8.82 lbs; we ended up one place out of the money in fourth. The winners had a limit near 13 pounds, second was three fish for 10+ pounds and third was three or four fish for 9.82 pounds. We weren't aware of the 12" spotted bass allowance until later in the day and threw back two fish that were 13" and 13.5" earlier; the bigger one would have put our limit a little over 9 pounds but still half a pound out. Not sure how many teams there were but a total of 19-20 people paid their way into the jackpot with only five teams weighing fish.
We started at some underwater lights and caught two nice keepers fairly quick, but once the first hint of daylight came out that bite completely shut off. Those fish seem to be extremely picky about what they'll eat and only bit one bait presented a very specific way. Ran up the Colorado and fished breakwalls and docks with wacky and Tx rigged Senkos to catch the other two keepers; you had to skip the bait all the way to the back of the dock or you didn't get bit. We caught over a dozen fish for the day with the biggest around 3 pounds. It was pretty tough fishing with two other tournaments already on the water at 4 am.
Good times Dale…and next time you can go ahead and acknowledge that I am your son!
