Well I told myself that I was going to be pissed off for only a few hours after day one.   Decided that the first thing that would cheer me up was some frog legs and gator tail.  Jayson, Landon, Brian and I ate at the Catfish Junction which seemed like a good idea at the time, well I think all of us overate and it took a few hours to recover from it, but the grub was good!  So we get back to the room and do the typical fishing talk around the boat and decide that if it is raining in the morning when the alarm goes off, we are going to sleep in.  Well the alarm went off and it was pouring, so back to the pillow.  I hear Don shout "get up, get up, get up" as they pass by at about 6:50 and this only prompts me to roll over.   We eventually do get up and the sun is actually out and we get the boat in the water around 8:30.   We head over to Harvey where I lost the drag puller from the day before and after about 30 min I throw the square bill next to a single stick up and pow our first keeper, and it does not need to be measured.   We screw around there for awhile with nothing and then head over to Veach.   Throwing the square bill shallow something grabs it and is gone in 3 seconds only this time with the bait.  A bit later Brian hits one on a swimbait and it does not need to be measured either.  The clouds start rolling in and I pick up the fluke and start catching rats immediately,  I keep weeding through them and Brian picks up a spook and within a few min has our 3rd keeper and it is bigger than the other two, then he picks up the senko and puts another in the boat and it is just a keeper that we cull.   In the back of Veach we find a crappie tree in about 10 fow and I start pitching the ol'monster in it and Brian is throwing a lizard, I look back to see him load up and I can tell it is a better fish, into the net and it looks like a 5lb football.  while he is putting it in the box, I hit one on the worm that culls our smallest fish.  We catch more short fish until weigh in and head to the scales knowing we have redeemed ourselves from yesterday.   Ended up with one of the bigger sacks of day two with 14.84lbs.   OK, I like Rayburn again.

Until next time,

JR

Good stuff Big James.  Did you see that pic through the trees in the opening of the LSS write-up?  Pretty cool pic with your boat in the center.

I sure did and have it as my screen saver right now, and thanks for posting that pic of me and Brian.

Thanks for the report. Almost seems like Veach has an inexhaustible supply of fish. I had the chance to fish Rayburn for 10 days last June and a lot of the fish I caught with my partner came out of Veach. Nothing huge but we had nice numbers up to 4 1/2 lbs. Some of our friends caught fish up to 6 lbs out of there, too. And then just around 2 weeks later, I think a couple of guys set a new bass n bucks tourney record with something like 32 lbs. (if I remember right) out of Veach, using a new worm design around deep brushpiles. And man, there were always a lot of boats in that place every time we went in, but we never had any problems with discourteous fishermen – it probably helps that creek's so big there's just enough room for everyone to do their own thing.

But man, yeah, growing up in Virginia in the middle of lots of pine woods – fishing Rayburn's definitely special. Almost feels like going back home a little. Fishing Bastrop just doesn't do that for me, which is probably why I haven't fished that little pond in over a year… :)

Great turn around from day one. For Chris and I the day went just the opposite. We were able to catch more top water fish on Sunday than we did in the previous two days of fishing. We did not keep up with the changes in the day . For us when the clouds covered the sun it seemed like it covered the mouth of the fish as well.  We were able to squeeze out a limit thinks to a couple of 13.75 inch spots. If I had it to do oyer I would have worked harder to find more water . I should have figured we would not be the only team to find  the fish we were catching.
