OfflineJust getting all the things put away from the trip to OH and what a trip it was.
First thing I would like to congratulate Jeff P. and Ronnie T. for winning the $10,000.00 first place. 2nd place went to the ever so consistent team of Charles W. and Lee B. our AOY Champs in LSS and FAN. Third went to Cotter and partner, Jackie and his Dad came in 4th.
Weather was great on Wednesday clear sky's and it felt like 90 degrees and the frog bite was working for me. I had a 7-1 and a 5-11 that I weighted and a solid 3 more to get a 5 fish limit for day one practice.
Day 2 started out with the front and a stiff north wind not breeze. I ended up with a stomach bug and didn't get out of bed until well after 3:00. The teams that did go out caught some fish from what it sounded like but I don't have any good report to give.
Friday morning we had 10-20 North winds and my frog bite changed to a 1.5 KVD crank baits, Jake and I lost all but one and and ended up with 2 under and one 18" for 4.55. All three fish were caught in shallow rocky banks. Only threw the frog in a few areas and ended up with 1 fish the 18" on it and the other 2 on the1.5. We get to the scales to see one 1-18 pound sack from Charles and Lee and 2- 17 pound sacks from Jeff and Ronnie and Cotter.
Saturday started out with Frost-Ice on the truck, boat and 34 degree temperatures and fog in the cove for takeoff. We ran down close to the dam and Jake is throwing our last 1.5 and catches 2 under 18 in the first 5 minutes. We move across the lake to a fence line and he lands another under. Now the informs me it is 3-0. I let him know at that point he is using my 1.5 and he decides to not bring up the score any more. We keep fishing point headed up to the mouth of the river and I catch my first on a spook and Jake catches his fourth under and bu now culled his first 2 unders. We get on the river ledge and I pick up a DD22 and within 50 yards I catch our largest of the day a 7.5 – 8 pound bass. I catch one more under on a 3/4 oz hot-lips after losing my DD22. We head up river to where the frog bite was on and we catch our second over for the day. No more fish period after 1:00 for us for day 2.
For anyone who has not been to Ive I would like to recommend staying at Elm Creek Lodge. Jerry and his staff are as good as it gets. Good food and friendly people.
