Jared Smith: aka "Que Ball" and I went blind to Lake Waco to shoot it out with the locals. We had a tough tournament but a great time. We finished 24th out of 100 entries and got the last check.

We started on a wind blown bank throwing square bill crank baits and spinner baits. Caught a ton of whites but only small blacks. I picked up my flipping stick and went to work. Our 1st keeper was around 4lbs and came flipping a Big Bite Bait Fighting Frog. Fished for about an hour more, went to leave the spot and the boat would not start. I had just bought new batteries and it  it was dead. After trying to jump it off the trolling batteries for an hour with no luck, we swapped batteries and headed across the lake.

Found a creek to get out of the wind because I knew we were only on 24V with a 36v motor and it didn't last long. We started flipping and caught 2 right away. The next bite was over 3lbs and I broke him off due to a nick in the line ( my bad!) We finished out our limit in that creek.  We then finished the day in another creek, where I caught a 3lber that got hung in a tree and Jared did what ever it took to get the fish in the boat! 10 min. later I hooked another fish in the 3lb range that went airborne on the hook set and came off.  We should have weighed 16 or 17 lbs and been in the top 5.

We caught every keeper flipping a Fighting Frog in timber. We ended up with 11.99lbs and finished in 24th. Just want to say thanks to Jared for the invite. We are planning to fish the tournament next year and hope to have more TTZ representation there. They limit it to 100 boats so get in early. The drive thru weigh in was pretty cool. Wanted to congratulate the winners they had 23lbs with a 6lb kicker. There was also an 8lber caught by the 2nd place team.

Good report and well done Jayson and Jared…not too shabby for fishing blind and having boat troubles to boot!
