TTZ – Austin Wed Night 5/27/09

21 teams fished, 7 teams weighed in and 3 places were paid.

It was another slow bite on Austin for most teams, but two out of the three teams in the money fished solo and brought in very respectable sacks for such a tough night. The fish are still spawning and the first and second place winners both reported catching the majority of their fish off of beds. The occupied beds are not easy to spot and more often than not are hidden among the thick grass flats on the upper end of the lake.

Mike Waldrop took first and Big Bass with three very solid fish; the five pounder reportedly bit a jig while the others came on a Pro’s Choice EG’r BV’r. He also mentioned missing another bed fish, about eight pounds, when it bit the tail off his bait. Coming off a remarkable win last week with over 27 pounds and a 10 pound kicker, Brad and his new partner Sarah also targeted bedding bass and coaxed them into biting a Chomper’s Skirted Twin Tail Grub. Their four fish bag weighing 11.35 pounds secured them firmly in second and placed Brad in the money for the second week in a row.

Our third place finisher was another solo effort; coming off a top 50 finish at the FLW Stren Series down on Lake Amistad, Ed concentrated on the lower end with a variety of baits to catch his 10.24 pounds. Kyle and TJ took home the Yamamoto and Kinami tackle pack for their fourth place, just out of the money, finish.

Despite some threatening storms in the surrounding area, Lake Austin stayed dried and provided a very mild evening with a picture perfect sunset. It’s times like this that make us realize just how lucky we are to be on the water even when the fish aren’t cooperating. Congrats to all in the money and thanks again to everyone that showed up!
