Last week the bite on Travis was red hot and we estimated it would soon take 15 pounds to win the Tues Nighter on Travis. Well, Dale and Jake Read proved us wrong as they brought in over 18 pounds this evening! The father and son team are on fire this season and Dale just came back from a third place, $3000.00, Bass Champs finish on LBJ. Their winning sack of 18.40 pounds set a new record for our evening tournaments on Travis, but setting records are nothing new to them as they broke Dale’s old Lake Austin record just a couple weeks ago with an over 30 pound sack during our Wed Night tournament! Dale was proud to mention Jake caught both their big fish, with the biggest one pushing seven pounds, on Yamamoto Senkos in the mid lake area.
Second place with a solid 14.71 pound limit were TTZ fishing team members Robby Crabb and Andy Nuyen. The team stayed on the lower end and caught all their fish throwing lightly weighted Yamamoto Senkos and Kinami Flashes. Robby stated their biggest fish came on the smaller 4″ Kinami Flash in the new green pumpkin/blue color. This color was just released in retail stores but the team has been using it sucessfully for several years now. If you haven’t tried it on Travis we highly recommend you do so as the fish absolutely cannot resist it.
Taking home the Yamamoto and Kinami tackle pack for the second week in a row with their 10.81 pounds were Dean and Travis. The team also won Big Bass with a 7.47 pound brute! If you haven’t guessed it already they also caught the big fish using Yamamoto plastic…a wacky rigged Senko to be exact.
We were also glad to see members of the Texas Bass Team come out and fish the tournament. Ty and Bobby were on their way to a very nice limit but just could not find that last fish; their sack was anchored by a couple of 3 pounders which fell victim to a shaky head and topwater!
