TTZ – Austin Wed Night 6/10/09

20 teams fished, 8 teams weighed in and 3 places were paid.

The big girls were on the chew tonight and we saw some very nice fish brought to the scales! The fishing usually gets tough after dark but several of our teams reported catching their biggest fish after the sun went down…never give up!

ATX Bassmasters members David and Fabian were the second team to weigh in and nearly everyone thought they had the big fish for the night after weighing in an 8.47 pound pig. But of course this is Lake Austin and you can never be sure an eight pounder is going to get the job done. Unfortunately for David and Fabian, Eddie Pelfrey stepped up and pulled out a 9.05 pound hawg that bumped them out of both the Big Bass and third place money. Eddie’s four keepers were caught on a spinnerbait and a jig with a Pro’s Choice E’gr Craw trailer. Following up his win from last week, Eddie fished solo and once again caught the biggest fish of his 14.40 pound sack towards the end of the evening.

The always consistent Waldrop brothers came in with a solid limit going 15.85 pounds and ended up in second place. Jr said their fish came on a variety of baits including spinnerbaits, jigs and Brush Hogs.

Even a blind a squirrel finds a nut now and then…well our tournament directors found a couple of nuts as Brian and Andy came in first with nearly 17 pounds. Their four fish sack included two bass in the 6-7 pound range that fell victim to a green pumpkin/blue Kinami Flash. As mentioned in The Triple Nickel show, Kinami offers a couple of different colors that Yamamoto does not and one of those colors paid off tonight. Andy also mentioned their biggest fish was caught around 9:20 after skipping the 5 inch Flash to the back of a dock. Their other two keepers were caught on a Baby Brush Hog and jig with a Yamamoto Flappin’ Hog trailer.

On a final note, the fish are still on beds and Randy Nelson proved it with a very nice fish we estimate in the 10 pound class. Due to boat problems he did not make it back to weigh in on time, but we sure are glad he came back to City Park and allowed us to take a picture of his fish!

Thanks again to all that came out and congrats to the teams in the money, see y’all next week!
