Make a Catch for a Good Cause!

MARBLE FALLS, Texas, Sept. 28, 2009 – River City Grille, 100.7 KASE 101, 98.1 KVET FM and AM-1300 the Zone will host the first ever “Gone Fishing for Kids” Charity Fishing Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 24 and Sunday, Oct. 25. In addition to a weekend of competitive fishing on Inks Lake, Lake Buchanan, Lake LBJ, and Lake Marble Falls, Gone Fishing for Kids will include lake activities; educational events for children and adults; and live music by singer-songwriter Radney Foster.

Event proceeds benefit The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Highland Lakes, The Highland Lakes Legacy Fund and Camp Phoenix.

We created Gone Fishing for Kids to encourage adults and youth to get out of the house and connect with nature, foster an appreciation for our precious natural resources and most importantly, give back to the community,” said River City Grille co-owner Paul Brady. “Every single dollar raised at this event will stay in the surrounding communities and benefit organizations that support Highland Lakes youth.”

Fishing Tournament

The two-day fishing tournament begins at “Safe Daylight” on Saturday, Oct. 24. Anglers will report to several designated check-in stations before fishing starts on Inks Lake, Lake Buchanan, Lake LBJ, and Lake Marble Falls. Weigh-ins will be held at 2 p.m. at designated stations. The tournament awards presentation starts at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25 at Lakeside Park in Marble Falls, Texas.

The Gone Fishing for Kids tournament is open to anglers of all skill-levels, including children. Teams consist of two anglers. Registrations received before Oct. 22 cost $150. Registrations received after Oct. 22 cost $175.

Kids’ Fish Event

The Kids’ Fish portion of the event is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Hamilton Creek in Burnet, Texas. Children ages 15 and under will learn to fish in a creek stocked by the Federal Fish Hatchery. The Kids’ Fish event is catch and release. A donation of $5 per participant is requested.

Lake Activities and Educational Events

Hands-on activities, exhibits and demonstrations presented by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct 24 and Sunday, Oct. 25 at Johnson Park in Marble Falls, Texas.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department activities include kayaking lessons and expeditions; a personal watercraft simulator; archery demonstrations and lessons; bass casting lessons; fly-fishing casting and fly tying lessons; and demonstrations on proper camp site setup.

LCRA will present its award-winning outreach program Nobody’s Waterproof™, which promotes water and boating safety. The outreach program engages audiences in a friendly conversation about water safety and spreads the message that you can have a good time on the water while playing it safe. Audience members participate in water-safety trivia games to receive free T-shirts, floating key chains, koozies and floating “noodles.”

In addition, Johnson Park will host a variety of arts and crafts vendors as well as food and beverage vendors.

Educational events and activities are free to the public. Donations are accepted.

Live Music

Singer-songwriter Radney Foster will headline the live music event from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Lakeside Park in Marble Falls, Texas. Brandon Jenkins and the Tommy Alverson Band are also scheduled to perform. Tickets to the live music event are $15 per person on line or $20 at the gate. Gates open at 5pm.
