TTZ – Travis Tues Night 5/19/09

14 teams fished, 7 teams weighed in and 2 places were paid.

Our teams were greeted with near perfect conditions for fishing this evening on Travis; and after a weekend of severe thunderstorms, it was nice to get out and fish in mid 80s temperatures without a rain cloud in sight.

There were some very respectable sacks brought in tonight, especially for a 3.5 hour tournament. Following up their 15.98 pounds from last week, David and Albert weighed in another 15 pound limit and took first place for the second week in a row! The team caught four solid fish throughout the evening on Texas rigged Yamamoto Senkos but struggled to find their fifth keeper. Not giving up, they kept chunking away until the last few minutes and managed to put the fifth keeper into the boat just a few yards away from the ramp.

Coming in second were Larry and Rich with another very nice sack. When we asked the second place finishers how they caught their 14.15 pounds of fish, Larry mentioned a very unique, or shall I say unorthodox technique…Carolina rigged Zara Spooks. Larry later said they caught somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 fish on that rig but all their keepers came on a Texas rigged Wave Worms Tiki-Stick.

Texas rigged plastics were the presentation of choice this evening as TTZ fishing team members Robby and Andy also used this technique to catch a sack just shy of second place. Andy mentioned catching a three pounder on his first cast throwing a Yamamoto Senko. Robby made a couple casts with a drop shot and switched over to the Senko after his partner quickly boated a second keeper. The team fished secondary points all evening and lost several nice fish, with one in the three pound range, before Robby managed a five pounder and another three pounder on the Senko.

Lake Travis continues to spit out quality sacks and even though no monsters were brought to the scales, it’s only a matter of time before the Lucky 7 Big Bass Pot is paid out. With 14 teams showing up this evening, the pot breaks the five hundred dollar mark and will roll over next week. Come on out, get some practice in for Champs and give yourself a chance to win that $515.00! Thanks to all that came out and congrats again to the winners!
