TTZ – Austin Wed Night 9/02/09

21 teams fished, 8 teams weighed in and 3 places were paid.

Our turnout historically drops significantly once school and dove season begin, but you couldn’t tell the birds were falling and the Longhorns welcomed a new freshmen class with a field of 21 boats last night.

Lake conditions were ideal and the full moon made for a nice evening on the water. It’s been two weeks since we’ve seen a double digit sack brought to the scales, last night Jr and Mike Waldrop set the mark to beat at 13.63 pounds with just three fish! Their sack included Big Bass of the evening at 5.50 pounds coupled with another fish weighing 5.17 pounds. The third keeper came in at just under three pounds giving them the win and sending the brothers off with $420.00. The team caught one of their fish on a Lucky Craft Sammy while a custom poured Brush Hog, made by Eddie Pelfrey of Pro’s Choice Lures, fished around grass accounted for the remaining two.

Second place with two nice fish and nearly eight pounds were Dean Alexander and Eric Crumley. Their two fish bag was anchored by a 4.67 pounder. Dean mentioned they had to resort to finesse tactics to get bit and caught their fish using 10 pound line with either a finesse worm or Baby Brush Hog. Dean also had a third place showing and won Big Bass on Conroe last weekend fishing the FMC/United Way Open Tournament. He and his partner, Chris Brasher, weighed in three fish going 14.67 pounds with a 7.79 pound kicker.

The race for third was extremely close as three teams all had sacks within .18 pounds of each other. Larry Pederzani and TTZ fishing team member Andy Nuyen had just enough to edge out Lee Benton and his partner Josh by a mere .03 pounds. The team ran all over the lake and fished 1/8 ounce Texas rigged Wave Tiki Sticks, Grande Bass Rattlesnakes and Yamamoto Senkos. They mentioned finding consistent action everywhere they went and caught over a dozen fish with just four keepers; unfortunately a 14.25 incher expired in the livewell and caused them to weigh in only three. Lee and Josh also had to downsize and fished 4″ Senkos to win their fourth place Yamamoto and Kinami tackle pack.

With a solid showing this week we’ve decided to extend the season and will be out again next week. Thanks to all for coming out and congrats to the teams in the money!
