17 teams fished, 8 teams weighed in and 3 places were paid.
17 teams fished the Big Sandy Creek Bass Club Winter Open on Lake Austin this past Saturday. With numerous ShareLunkers already turned in from across the state, 34 anxious anglers pitched and flipped the docks of Lake Austin hoping to find that fish of a life time!
Although no SALs were brought in, Austin did not disappoint and lived up to her trophy bass reputation as two lucky teams weighed in double digit fish! Chad Maxwell and Nick Boatwright, who ended up finishing second place overall and took home the tackle pack for the second place Big Bass, weighed in the first monster fish of 10 pounds 13 ounces; the team ended up with a solid 18 pounds 1 ounce for only three fish.
Shortly after, Dale Read and his son Jake came up to the scales with another Lake Austin giant, this one weighing 11 pounds 2 ounces to win first place Big Bass. Along with their other four fish the team weighed in a limit of 25 pounds and finished in first place, nearly seven pounds ahead of the next closest team! Dale mentioned he caught the big fish on a weightless Senko around 10 am. He also reported his first bite of the day was a five pounder, that he located the day before on a bed, which unfortunately got off at the boat. Dale has the uncanny ability of catching trophy bass out of this lake year after year, during the Wednesday Night Austin tournaments last season he brought in another fish weighing 11.06 pounds!
TTZ fishing team members Dan Taylor and Andy Nuyen rounded out the three paid places with a four fish bag just shy of 15 pounds. They fished jigs the majorty of the day and found most of their success skipping the jig to the very back of docks. Congratulations to all in the money and thanks to Big Sandy for putting on the tournament!
