61 teams took off from Temple Lake Park this Saturday as they fished the fourth stop of the 2009 FOM Central Division season on Lake Belton. The anglers were blessed with a mild and cloudy morning, but with forecasted winds blowing 20-30 mph knew the overcast skies would soon disappear and the white caps would start rolling in.
With nearly more than a two pound lead over the rest of the field, Kelley Mauldin and Bill Flanary took a decisive win weighing in 16.66 pounds! Coming off a third place finish from LBJ and in second place were the team of Dale Read and Paul Carman. Dale has been absolutely on fire this season and continued his streak with another top three finish in a major trail event.
We’d also like to congratulate our good friend Tim Dixon and partner Kenneth Cummins on their fifth place finish! The team has been extremely consistent all season and is now just three points behind the leaders in the Angler of the Year standings. With only seven points separating the top four teams the final event on Travis will be very interesting. Rounding out the 12th and final spot in the money were TTZ fishing team member Bryan Thompson and Tim Champlin.
With Bass Champs hitting Belton next week, specific patterns were hard to get. Nearly everyone reported catching very good numbers of fish all day with several teams mentioning white and watermelon flukes worked shallow producing the majority of their keepers. Tune in next month as we wrap up the season and bring you the final report from Travis.
