28 teams fished, 8 teams weighed in and 3 places were paid.
LCRA was flowing water this evening and Lake Austin was the highest we’ve seen it in quite some time. With the recreational traffic picking up the water clarity has changed quite a bit and most of the mid lake areas were noticeably stained. After a tough bite last week, not much changed for the majority of the 28 teams that showed up to fish the Wed Nighter.
With a very sporadic bite plagued by short fish, two teams were able to locate some quality fish and break the double digit mark. Jay and Ron were first to weigh in and pulled one heck of a kicker out for Big Bass. Their pig tipped the scales at 8.88 pounds and anchored their second place weight of nearly 13 pounds. Jay caught the big fish on a 3:16 swimbait and reported their other two keepers coming of a Yamamoto Senko. Their Big Bass and second place finish sent the team back to the ramp with an extra $390.00 in their pockets.
Taking first this evening were the always consistent Waldrops. Using jigs and Brush Hogs to catch their 16.58 pounds, their four fish bag included two very healthy bass and earned the brothers $420.00.
Third place went to Louie and Jason with their three fish bag weighing just under eight pounds. Jason mentioned bites were very hard to come by until stumbling onto a dock that produced three consecutive bites. The team landed two of those three fish and barely squeezed by the fourth place team of Clark and Wooley, who eventually took home the Yamamto and Kinami tackle pack with their 7.76 pounds.
You never know what will happen on Austin…twenty pound sacks one week followed by eight pound sacks the next. One thing is for sure, you can’t win if you don’t get on the water. Regardless of the bite, most everyone enjoys their time on the lake and always comes back learning something new. Congrats to the teams in the money and thanks again to all for coming out. See y’all next week!
