25 teams fished, 8 teams weighed in and 3 places were paid.
With the tough bite and passing storms you would think the turnout for this week’s Wed Nighter would take a severe hit, but to the contrary we had 25 boats show up to try their luck against both the lake and Mother Nature.
The recreational traffic has significantly decreased and the cooler temperatures made for a very mild evening on the water. Although the lightening storms were a bit ominous, they dissipated shortly after take off while the rain found its way around lake. For the majority of the tournament our anglers were able to stay dry, but just like the bite on Austin things can change in the blink of an eye. The storms eventually found their way back to the lake forcing a good portion of our teams to call it an early night and head to the ramp.
Tonight’s weigh-in was far from spectacular as a three fish sack for just over 7 pounds won it all while a couple of 4 1/2 pound bags finished second and third. Larry Pederzani and TTZ fishing team member Andy Nuyen caught their meager sack fishing Texas rigged Tiki Sticks and Kinami Flashes around docks and grass. Bryan Thompson and Grant Schnabel followed up their second place finish from last week with another second place bag throwing small jerkbaits over grass on the lower end. One solid fish accounted for third place and Big Bass and both honors went to Cary and Tom for their 4.51 pound fish.
Though the results indicate a very poor bite, several teams commented on losing fish that would have made their limit or been a kicker to their sacks. Reports of several lost fish in the 4-5 pound range were common, but “the one that got away” was a fish in the 8 pound range that snapped the line just a few feet from the boat.
Thanks to everyone that braved the weather and came out tonight. We can’t promise the bite on Austin is going to improve anytime soon, but we can guarantee we’ll be out there again next week to see if it does.
