TTZ – Austin Wed Night 9/30/09

21 teams fished, 10 teams weighed in and 3 places were paid.

Over 20 teams showed up to help us close out the 2009 Wed Night season; with temperatures in the upper 80s and recreational traffic at a minimum, our anglers set out one last time in search of an elusive five fish limit on Lake Austin.

The weigh-in started as usual with small two and three fish sacks brought to the scales. The first team to break the double-digit mark were Yung Follis and Rich McDonell; “Team Rude518” showed up with a 5.13 pound kicker and two additional fish for just over 11 pounds and went on to win over $400.00 for first place and Big Bass. Moving baits were the key and the winners hit several places on the lower end of the lake with spinnerbaits and cranks. Yung, who is a member of the Texas Boat World fishing team, said their big fish was caught pitching a spinnerbait and stroking it off a dock piling. It was good to see our old friends back on the water; work and home improvement projects had them tied down for most of the season but I’m sure that extra cash will help Rich with his 2600 sq ft garage project! Congrats again guys!

Full size Brush Hogs were responsible for our second and third place sacks. Cary and Tom fished the Zoom version and concentrated on points and ditches south of 360 to earn their second place finish. Cary mentioned they were immediately on fish and had their their 10.02 pounds, which included a nice 4.94 pounder, by 8:30. They struggled to catch another keeper until Tom lost a giant, “Half the size of their boat!” according to him, towards the end of the evening. This was Cary’s third week in a row to finish in second place and Tom’s second time in his last two appearances, that’s pretty solid by any means!

The Waldrop brothers followed up their win from two weeks ago and finished the season in the money with their third place showing last night. Once again it was Eddie Pelfrey’s hand poured Brush Hogs that did the trick. Jr elaborated on their pattern saying the team had been concentrating on small rock patches along grass lines on the upper end of the lake.

Despite the tough conditions throughout most of the year, we had a great time hosting the Wed Nighters and are glad we got a chance to catch up with old friends while making many new ones. Special thanks go to Hustler Turf and Mitchell Outdoor Equipment for sponsoring the 25K Lake Record Bonus and Lee Evans of Certified Arbor Care for his overall weight and Big Bass incentives. We’d also like to thank Rick Smith and Marine Outlet for providing us with a fleet of boats including Legend, Bullet and Champion as well as Derek Yamamoto with GYCB and Kinami Baits for providing all the tackle packs.

The 2010 Wed Night season will pick up next spring following the time change – it’s been a blast this year and we would finally like thank everyone that has come out to support us!
