The inaugural Texas BassCat Owners Event was held Saturday, November 14th. Thomas Ross, with the help of Mike Tadlock, gathered 54 BassCat boats from six different states including California, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas and Texas to fish in a one day tournament on Cedar Creek Lake.
It was a huge turnout for the event as the teams competed for a top payout of $1,000 while contributing to fellow BassCat owner and BASS Elite Series Pro James Niggemeyer’s Youth With A Mission charity.

The fishing was tough as over half of the field struggled to catch a keeper or two. It was the first time on the lake for many of the teams, and as mentioned earlier several boats came in from out of state; but that didn’t stop the Arkansas based father and son team of Bill and Reid Prescott from winning the tournament! Bill and Reid fished shallow water all day up in Caney Creek; they swam black and blue jigs while kicking up mud with the trolling motor to catch their limit weighing 14.51 pounds and claim the $1,000 top prize!
TTZ had the chance to interview Reid after the tournament, “I just want to thank everyone for the hard work that they put into this event. It was really a BIG success! I enjoyed meeting everyone and really had a great time. I can’t wait for next year! I also want to thank ALL the sponsors for everything they gave to this event!”
Coming in second were Texans Chris Moore and Hal Gal with 13.58 pounds. Chris mentioned they had been fishing a lot of tournaments on Cedar Creek but had to run around and cover a lot of water to find their fish. The team started deep and ended shallow throwing crankbaits and jigs; Chris and Hal had four solid fish, including a near 4 lb kicker, but could never cull their smallest one. Their second place finish earned them $800.
Big Bass of the tournament went to Gerald Barker and Ralph Garcia for their 4.73 lber, the team also finished fourth overall and took home over $500 in winnings.
Besides the fellowship, good food, generous payouts and great prizes awarded to all the anglers, perhaps the biggest accomplishment was the donation made to YWAM. We caught up with James Niggemeyer to find out what this charity is all about and what it means to him.
Hats off to Thomas and Mike for pulling off this event with only 6 weeks of planning! A great time was had by all and everyone walked away with some great products and prizes ranging from BassCat hats to an autographed Kevin Short jersey. Next year’s event promises to be bigger and better and Texas Tournament Zone is looking forward to being a part of it.
