TTZ – Austin Wed Night 7/14/10

11 teams fished, 7 teams weighed in and 2 places were paid.

The water at City Park was the highest we’ve seen it a long while as LCRA was moving quite a bit of water last night. We had reports of water temps in the high 50s on the northern end of the lake and several boats came to check-in with fish already spotted on beds. Rumor has it the fish are at it again north of Quinlan, but getting them to bite proved difficult this week.

But two fish was all it took for Brad Casebier and Cary Laudadio to sweep this week’s Wednesday night tournament as they won first place and Big Bass with a very healthy 8.27 pound fish!

After last week’s mishap with his trolling motor, Brad would like to thank Jacky Roberts at Fish Finders Marine for getting him back on the water so quickly!

“Jacky is the man! After last weeks trolling motor destruction, I really thought I was going to be out this week. Jacky got it done, and I had it mostly installed right before the tournament.”

As for the fishing,

“We just went to a couple of our spots and found a couple of beds. The first one was very hard to see in the muddy water. I thought she might go 6 but was pleasantly surprised! She was very aggressive, and chased the jig out of the bed almost every cast….she finally slammed it around 7:00. We had a tough time with the next one but finally got him to bite. Nothing else worked for us and I just hoped I had big bass. We sure never thought we could win with just two fish. You never know!”

Brad and Cary won for the second week in a row and took home $255; congrats again guys!

While the winners ran north for their winning bag, the second place team of Lance Hale and Derrell Hickman went south to catch their 10.16 pound limit.

“Derrell and I fished south of 360 all night with shakey head plastics in the reeds and a few grass lines. We caught alot of fish, culled once and had a great time,” said Lance.

Third place went to the Waldrops, whose bag included a nice 6.86 pound fish. The brothers are used to finishing in the money this year, but settled for a Pro’s Choice lures tackle pack provided by Jacky Roberts and Fish Finders Marine this week.

It was also good to see old partners Andy Nuyen and Terry Williams back on the water and fishing together. On a relatively tough night of fishing, the team caught eight keepers and managed to cull three times for a very modest 8.06 pounds. Terry shared a few thoughts with us after the tournament.

“It was great to catch up with and share a boat with Andy for a TTZ Lake Austin Wednesday Night Tournament. Andy and I started fishing together five years ago when neither of us knew much about the area lakes. Throughout the years we have forged a great friendship and as the owner of Austin Bass Fishing I look forward to more evenings like this and exciting things to come from both ABF and TTZ.”

“If anybody is on the fence about fishing these events let me tell you it’s a great experience. The folks at TTZ have done an excellent job of keeping the weekly tournament series a fun, friendly event and a great midweek break. I honestly have learned more about Lake Austin and Travis hanging out after the weigh-in and listening to the winning patterns and techniques. These guys can flat out fish and will do their best to bring home the money, but when the boats are on the trailers it’s a great environment to improve your fishing.”

Thanks again for joining us this week Terry, we look forward to some great collaborations to come! And of course thanks to all the anglers that come out and fish with us, we’ll see everyone next week!
