TTZ – Austin Wed Night 6/02/10

5 teams fished, 3 teams weighed in and 1 place was paid.

With severe storms moving across the radar and threats of large hail and wind gusts to 50 mph, only a few die hard teams decided to brave the elements. There were actually seven teams that came to City Park during registration, but after a couple boats changed their minds at the last minute it was winner take all.

And speaking of winner take all, the Waldrop brothers did just that by winning the tournament and bringing in a 9.48 pound fish to also win Big Bass!

Jr told us, “We had no idea that fish was there before the tournament. We decided to take shelter under a bridge and wait out the storm; when we pulled in the big girl was sitting there under a tree!”

The rest of their near 20 pound limit came blind casting Senkos, congrats to the Waldrops on another Austin win!

The two other teams that managed to catch fish both had similar results, but Robby Crabb and Andy Nuyen managed to edge out the Papst brothers with the help of Robby’s 7.56 pound fish. The big girl ate a black and blue Jarod Jig and was the highlight of their evening; their other two keepers came off Texas rigged Senkos.

On a sidenote, Blake and Waylon didn’t start fishing until late in the evening.

“We didn’t really start fishing until 8:30, luckily our uncle has a boat house so we were able to hang out there until the storm passed. Right after the tournament started lighting struck about 50 yards behind us and our rods buzzed…luckily we were both smart enough to drop them and took cover”,said Waylon.

Despite the inclement weather, the fishing was was actually quite good after the rain let up and we’re happy to report all the teams that stayed and fished made it safely back to the ramp. Water temps ranged from 60 degrees around Quinlan to 68 mid lake; the fish are still on beds but are not as concentrated…gotta love bed fishing in June!
