The 3rd event of the Fishers of Men 2009 season, held March 21st, found a lot of anglers struggling to figure out a post spawn situation. But as always, some are ahead of the move. Randy Grounds and Larry Owens blasted the field with an over 3 pound lead, coming in at 18.47 pounds, and a 4.76 pound anchor fish. Kevin Pederazani and Robert Brown took second place honors with a 15.37 pound bag, and the big bass of the tourney at 6.52 pounds. The team of Dale Read and Paul Carmen took third with a nice sack of 15.36 pounds, and a 4.06 pound anchor fish.
The angler of the year points have shifted, and Kevin Pederazani and Robert Brown now hold the lead, though Ronnie Trower and Jeff Pitrucha hold a close second place standing.
We did our best to get some details for you, but most were tight lipped after the weigh in, and understandably so. You see, with BassChamps headed to the same lake in two short weeks, there is a lot at stake. We heard from a few of the leaders, and “overheard” a few others. The prevailing pattern was typical post spawn. Main lake c-rigging with baits ranging from flukes to baby brush hogs were successful. A few of the better bags came off boat docks in the mouths of creeks with wacky worms and flukes- that is if you can skip like a pro! Humps, points, and transition areas were holding some of the bigger fish. But we did hear of some nice fish still being caught off beds…so go figure.
The tourney weigh-in was held out of Sunrise Beach Village, and the pre-tourney meeting was hosted by Lake Shores Community Church and its pastor Mike Shine. Good food was enjoyed by all thanks to Peete Mesquite’s BBQ.
It should make for an interesting angler of the year race, as the field starts to tighten. Thanks again to Jeff Cook and the FOM crew for another well run event!
