The morning air was a cold 29 degrees at first cast but the bite was definitely red hot. Big fish were caught and brought to the scales during the first weigh in, including Dan Taylor’s overall winning fish at 9.51 lbs and Billy Weem’s third overall fish weighing 5.53 lbs. Dan stated his fish came very early on a jig while Billy caught his on a topwater; Billy also reported he had another bass of equal size come off right at the boat.

As the day went on the bite slowed down, but this did not stop the keeper bass from coming to the scales. Bryan Thomspson and Andy Nuyen, fishing out of the same boat, managed to bring in winning fish hour after hour. They reportedly were fishing deep rocks with football head jigs and Tx rigged creature baits.

The third hourly weigh in saw Herb Marion bring in another toad weighing 8.95 lbs, Herb’s fish held on to take the overall second big fish award. Before the day was over Herb also managed another keeper that took fourth place in the last hour. In adition to his big fish, Dan also managed to bring in two other fish which awarded him third and fifth place hourly checks. Rounding out the multiple hourly winners was David Bueche weighing in fish that earned him third place spots in the last two hours.

After the last fish was weighed, cash and tackle packs were awarded to the winners. Speaking of winners, everyone that came back to the final weigh-in felt like a winner as they were all treated to complimentary BBQ and beer!

  1. I was unable to attend this TTZ tournament but have heard nothing but great things about it. Will definitely be making the Stillhouse TTZ Big Bass Tournament on 1/24/09!
