10 teams fished, 6 teams weighed in and 2 places were paid.
May has been a fairly predictable month on Lake Austin. With the spawn still going strong the winning sacks usually came bed fishing; and when it comes to winning, odds were good the winners’ names were either Casebier, Waldrop or Papst.
Blake and Waylon Papst followed up their win from May 5 and won the Wed Nighter for the second time this month! The brothers also came in second last week and have finished in the money all three times they’ve fished in May. Unlike Casebier and the Waldrops, they are focusing on docks instead of pulling fish off beds. Their dock pattern paid off again as they had the only limit of the evening and bested the modest field with 13.05 pounds.
Blake gave us a short and simple run down of their night.
“Well last night was little different than last week, we fished are same water mid lake, which was like fishing through a small hurricane, and couldn’t get a bite. Then around 8:45 once the boat traffic died down I caught our first keeper, we finished out our limit around 9:30. All our fish were caught on Texas rigged Senkos.”
Congrats to Blake and Waylon on a very solid month of fishing!
Now back to bed fishing. The majority of the field all ran north and were fishing within 75 yards of each other! Rising from the pack and finishing second were Jack Jr. and Mike Waldrop with four fish for 10.24 pounds.
Fishing the same water and winning Big Bass with his 6.13 lber was Brad Casebier; he also finished third overall and took home the Fish Finders tackle pack.
With as much water as LCRA has been releasing, the water temps are actually dropping and the spawn may run a little deeper into the year. If you like close quarters fishing and “racing to the spot”, the Wed Nighters are right up your alley! If bed fishing is not your style, our Tues Nighters on Travis are a lot more relaxing and have been steadily growing.
Combat fishing or not seeing another boat for miles…either way we got you covered!
